Hip Hop isn't Hip Hop Anymore...

Dreamville Records is going out sad.

For anyone who’s part of the Dreamville fam, it’s not a good week for you. The critically acclaimed North Carolina rapper J Cole has APOLOGISED for his diss track to Kendrick Lamar.

JERMAINE! WHAT IS THE MATTER WITH YOU?

This might be my age showing, but I can’t remember a time where a rapper has apologised for making a diss track only days after releasing it.

This is NOT hip hop.

Why make a diss track when it’s only going to take you days to retract it? Why even put it out?

If you don’t know what a diss track is, just stop reading this and go back to what you were doing, you’re just as soft as the Dreamville camp.

I grew up knowing clash culture in rap and Grime, from Lord of the Mics, to Chip vs Bugzy, and literally the entire UK Drill scene. Timeless classics like Ether, Hit 'Em Up, Know Better, the list goes on and on. I’ve even been blessed with multiple diss songs coming out on the same day.

To see this from someone who people claim to be at the top of US Rap is outright embarrassing.

Diss tracks are like day trading with crypto - very volatile, high risk but high reward. It’s about the competitiveness between rappers going at it. Anything goes with what is said to push the buttons of the other rapper.

J Cole waving the white flag literally days after putting his diss track out is a mockery of the game. This might not take away from his ability, but it definitely takes away his credibility. No matter what type of rapper you are, when you’re putting out diss tracks, you better show some fight and he backed down horrifically.

Diss tracks may not be something he wants to do, but it makes it difficult to see him in a higher light in the game after pulling this stunt.

Embarrassing! Don't be like Jermaine.

Signing out.

Love.
